About the Lake Shore Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club
The objectives of the Lake Shore Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club, Inc., (as stated in our Constitution and Bylaws) are to further the advancement of the breed by:
- Promoting the training of Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs
- Disseminate knowledge regarding sowning, obedience training, health, breeding and owning the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
- Hold and support sanctioned matches, dog shows and obedience trials under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club, and
- To encourage cooperation and good sportsmanship among its members in the training and exhibition of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.
Club activities take place in Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. Club activities include fun matches, training sessions, picnics and other events that the membership organizes. The Club's primary purpose is to be representative of the owners, breeders and exhibitors in its immediate area. The Club's area is designated as the greater Chicago-land area with many members in Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. While membership is unrestricted as to residence, regular and household full privilege memberships do require residence in our Club's designated area.
While the majority of our members reside in Illinois and Wisconsin, we include many members in Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa. Any club member may organize a club activity or event. In fact we encourage it. With the exception of our AKC events (which must be held in the Greater Chicago-Land area) any of the other events may occur where our members have an interest. We currently have many of our pack hikes throughout our members’ local communities. However permission needs to be obtained from the Lake Shore GSMD Club board of directors for any Lake Shore sponsored events. Many events may also require proof of insurance which can also be obtained from the board. Our club has many members that will assist new event organizers learn the ropes and host a successful club event. Our club owns equipment needed for weight pulls and fun events.
We are a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America recognized club and have AKC license status. Lake Shore GSMD Club hosts one AKC specialty show, sweepstakes and obedience trial each year.
